Sara Downey’s tutoring journey began with a desire to provide the best possible education for her own children. She started teaching them herself, focusing on basics like phonemic awareness and number sense. Through this, Sara recognized the transformative power of tutoring and established At-Home Tutoring Services to share this experience with other families.

The overarching objective, though, is tending to a student’s most pressing issues. Tutoring sessions increase in intensity and frequency if a student is struggling, and become less intensive if a student is performing well. This allows tutors to specifically address individual needs. To ensure a student is on track to reach their goals, they engage in scheduled check-ins. If a goal isn’t achieved, At-Home Tutoring takes steps to pinpoint the cause. Maybe a student isn’t intrinsically motivated or their tutor isn’t the best match for them. At-Home Tutoring is committed to constantly improving, both quantitatively and qualitatively.

At-Home Tutoring Services adjusts the number of sessions depending on student needs, but generally schedules at least two meetings per week. At each session, students meet with the same tutor.
